InterOil to the rescue: Women in remote villages in Papua New Guinea continue to face endemic health challenges that often result in death. It is no different in remote Aumi village, along the Purari River where the nearest health centre is some days walk away or on a dugout canoe. A woman who needed urgent surgery to treat a ruptured ectopic pregnancy was airlifted from Kapuna rural hospital to Kerema town hospital by InterOil recently. An ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy that occurs outside the womb. InterOil continues to provide medivac for locals who need specialist medical assistance in remote communities along Purari River.
